Camperdown is a growing country town in the Mkhambathini Local Municipality of KwaZulu-Natal, approximately 20 kilometres south-east of Pietermaritzburg and about 60 kilometres by road from Durban. Located near the N3 and R603, it occupies an important position between the provincial capital, the Upper Highway area and the rural farming communities of the uMgungundlovu District. The town was laid out in 1865 on a farm named Camperdown.
