Ulundi is a historic administrative and cultural centre in the Ulundi Local Municipality of northern KwaZulu-Natal’s Zululand District. On 4 July 1879, British forces defeated the Zulu army at the Battle of Ulundi and destroyed the royal homestead during the final major engagement of the Anglo-Zulu War.
