Umhlali is a historic farming village in the KwaDukuza Local Municipality on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast. It lies along the R102 inland from Salt Rock, approximately nine kilometres north-west of Ballito and close to the N2 highway. The village was established by British and Scottish Byrne settlers around 1850 and was initially known as Fort William. Its present name comes from the nearby uMhlali River.
